A Fourth of July Musing

Short letter this week due to the July Fourth holiday…

When we were first introduced to the creator world, we were struck by the hustle, grit and entrepreneurial spirit possessed by many of the creators we were meeting. Since then, the novelty of their ambition has worn off – not because the creators are any less driven (likely the opposite is true), but because it’s easy to become desensitized over time.

The other day, Blake Robbins shared the below, which reminded me of our early observation:

Much is made of the headlines proclaiming that the majority of kids want to be influencers when they grow up. While cynics bemoan a generation avoiding hard work, the optimistic view is that many will become determined entrepreneurs, leveraging technology for distribution and to redefine a modern career (or even lemonade stand). Some of the most successful and up-and-coming creators today never went to or graduated from college, have no financial safety net, and are pioneering a totally new profession. Not only have they managed to make a career for themselves, but many also support those around them (including parents, siblings, and friends).

If you ever need a reminder that the American Dream is alive, spend time with creators and listen to their stories – where they came from, why they’re doing it, and where they hope to go.

Happy Fourth of July!
